5 CV Tips

Learn about 5 ways to make your CV stand out and improve your chances of getting your dream job.

Every new year most people assess where they are at and where they want to be - this inevitably includes their job. It is no coincidence that the first three months of the year are when most people leave and start new roles. So how can you improve your chances of getting your dream role in the busiest time for the market?

The Reimagine Talent's, Tabitha West, lists her 5 top tips to improve your CV:

  1. READ the advert carefully - So many people just skim through the advert and send a stock standard resume. The more you tailor your resume, the higher chances you will have of being noticed.

  2. PLASTIC SURGERY - I am being cheeky here but in all seriousness if you are still using an old Word template that a friend or family member sent you, you need to chuck it out. There are so many cheap and free ways to make your resume look amazing. My favorite is Canva - and its free!

  3. REVIEW YOUR ONLINE RESUME AKA LINKEDIN - Is it up to date your LinkedIn profile? Is your photo professional? Do you have all the companies you have worked for linked? All this counts so if you last looked at your profile three years ago, it's time to give it a facelift.

  4. ADD ACHIEVEMENTS - Often employers are looking for more when reviewing CV's, instead of just noting what your basic responsibilities were. Add a section for your achievements. By adding this section you are emphasising that you did not just do what was required, you are outlining how you added value over and above the basic requirements of the role.

  5. CALL THE HIRING MANAGER - This is honestly not a resume tip but something that is really effective! Where ever possible, call the hiring manager and ask some questions about the role that are not outlined in the advert. If there is no one listed, just call and ask for the person that is looking after the recruitment for the role or the manager of the department that the role is in.

A quick recap... Read the advert carefully and customise your resume. Make your resume formatting look amazing. Review and update your Linkedin. Emphasise your achievements. Find out more about the role by speaking with the hiring manager.
Happy Job hunting! - Tabitha West
